“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Challenging your body’s current abilities will help to gain strength.  This doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone.  There are so many “right” and “wrong” ways to work out; so many “next best thing” workout fads.  We hear daily about trends to speed up calorie burn or gain muscles faster – but blanketed by all the hype is the most important concept that is so often missed – Working on your fitness is for YOUR health, so you can continue to enjoy life to it’s fullest and ultimately achieve a life filled with happiness.  Improving and maintaining your health through working out is for YOU!

When we feel good about ourselves, we ultimately achieve more.  When our body’s also feel good, because they’re fit and healthy, we strive for higher goals.  Our workouts should put these goals in the forefront.  While not only do our workouts need to be challenging for our bodies, in order to continue to improve the functioning of our muscles and systems, they also need to work for our bodies.  As much as we are each alike in so many ways, we all lead different lives and have our own uniqueness.  Our workouts need to match our individual needs, which will vary daily, and whatever we choose to do needs to make us feel good at the end of the day.

If you’re caught up constantly striving for a workout routine where you feel defeated, you’ll never achieve your true fitness.  If you meet your workout feeling like you’re just not into it, you don’t know why you’re doing it, or you tell yourself that you’ll never be good enough or as good as the guy grunting in front of the mirror with the giant biceps, then you’re right – and you’re missing the point and doing yourself a huge injustice. By approaching our workouts with enthusiasm, knowing we’re doing this for ourselves and we’re listening to our body’s needs, we will achieve personal greatness and this greatness will make a wave, touching all those around us and becoming a part of our lives, rather then another check on our daily list of things to do.
