It is not uncommon to be completely over-stimulated in this modern era: with the "always online" and on-call mentality-- often spending significant time behind phone and computer screens or behind the wheel of our cars going here and there. We notice the effects of this "go-go-go" as we suffer adrenal fatigue, short tempers, restless nights, illness, anxiety and depression.
Yoga Nidra is the antidote to that over-stimulation:
the complete surrender of mind and body into rest.
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a form of non-sleep deep rest. It always includes a guided body scan, an opportunity to surrender the body into rest, slowly.
When you begin your practice, you'll be experiencing an active mind: beta brainwaves. As the practice continues, you'll eventually enter the restorative subconscious alpha brainwaves. In alpha state serotonin is released, which helps you to reach a transformational experience of inner calm. Fluctuations in the mind start to decrease and you settle and begin to feel more at ease. The brain will then begin to emit delta waves, mimicking what happens when we enter a deep restful sleep.
While the aim of the practice is to stay in the subtle subconscious relaxed state, falling sleep isn't uncommon. This practice is so beneficial for your nervous system and body, that 1 hour of Yoga Nidra has been equated to getting 4 hours of good sleep.
Yoga Nidra taps into the principles of the Koshas in Yogic Philosophy. Put simply, the Koshas are the layers of ourselves, and through the Yoga Nidra practice, we are able to "peel back" the layers of the conscious self and ego and relax into our more centered, harmonious, meditative and bliss-body.
What can I expect?
After you arrive, we'll begin with a few gentle stretches and qigong movements, and then move into meditation and pranayama to clear the body and mind, preparing for the Nidra journey.
You'll be resting in supported Savasana for the majority of the practice. You'll be welcome to use *bolsters, blankets, eye covers, to help with your Nidra Experience. Dress in lose fitting cozy gear: don't forget socks!
*Our studio provides blankets, bolsters, and eye pillows.
You are welcome to bring your own items of comfort.
About Sasha
I started out personal training in 2009, with the goal to help accomodate and inspire strength & growth in creative ways. It didn't take long to notice stress, adrenal fatigue, and body shame was rampant amongst the people I worked with, and I began introducing & guiding my clients through meditation, mindfulness, breathing practices. In 2016, I started my personal Yoga practice, and I began my Yoga Training one year later.
I believe and aim to embody movement as medicine. I believe that accessibility is essential, and strength & mobility should go hand-in hand, which is why we need to learn more about how everything is interconnected!
My journey has evolved so many times, and I've walked hundreds of people through their emotional and physical journeys. While bodies, lifestyles, and priorities change, this remains the same: I see you, I believe in you. You can and you will.
